2 Lazy Weekend Outfits

Hi Everyone!

2 Lazy Weekend Outfits

Weekends are the best! We finally get some time off, and get to wear whatever we want. Enough with the high heels and pencil skirts, let’s talk weekend wear! The truth is, we’re so exhausted after a long week’s work, that we get sometimes super lazy. Sometimes, we don’t feel like dressing up at all. The solution? Couldn’t be simpler. An outfit that’s easy to put together, but still looks cool. Kind of like these two looks we picked, and think you might enjoy wearing. They’re both casual and quite perfect for the weekend, whatever you may decide to be doing:

First off is the super-comfortable-yet-cool look. Nothing says comfort like a pair of boyfriend jeans and a sweater. But it gets interesting when the jeans feature rips and patches, and the sweatshirt features the season’s trendy embellishments. And while boyfriend jeans may look boring with sneakers, they look chic with a pair of pointy flats! Extra points if they come in a sweet print like polka dots and a bright color like red. You’ll also want a pop of color when it comes to your sunglasses, so pick fun, printed ones, and let them replace your makeup altogether. Accessorize with simple, but sweet jewelry, such as charm earrings and a tube bracelet, and carry all your essentials in a neutral but pretty messenger bag. See? You’re comfortable and you look good in just 5 minutes.

If you’re more on the sporty side, then this outfit is for you! Have all the comfort of sportswear with all the style of an urban girl! Start out with the champions of all comfortable pants – the jeggings – and pair them with a casual top featuring a feminine print (e.g. floral, polka dot, lace). Keep a cool look with trendy wedge sneakers and opt for aviator sunglasses to go with the rest of the outfit. A crossbody canvas bag will be easy to carry and lightweight, but your accent piece will be your ring: make it cute and it will be a conversation starter!

Thanks Daria!

Back into the Swing of Things

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the unannounced hiatus I took from blogging this week. Sometimes life gets in the way, and blogging unfortunately has to take a back seat. With that being said, I’m happy to say that I finally did manage to fit in some much needed R&R this weekend!

Lately, I’ve been go, go, go at work and at home, so it was nice to unwind, spend quality time with family and friends as well as fit in a run!

About running – boy does it get HARD when you stop for a few weeks! Between my cousins destination wedding, work and other events, running just wasn’t the #1 on my to-do list!

Although I hate feeling like my legs are full of lead, I strangely like the difficulty that comes from taking a break from running. I feel even more accomplished after a difficult run, than an easy one. Weird, I know, but running is truly all a mind game. I haven’t run in weeks, obviously I’m tired, but I’m certainly not making that stop me.

I’ll also admit that I’ve slightly swayed away from running this past month due to the fact that I’ll be hitting the pavement at least 3-4 times a week, for the next 4 months while training for my marathon!

I’m sure it won’t be the easiest of tasks, but I couldn’t be more excited about the journey that lies ahead!

The quote below from the New York times below says it best.

Non runners often imagine that people can cover 26.2 miles only because they have lean, muscled legs and a highly developed cardiovascular system. Nothing could be further from the truth. The runner’s most important organ, by far, is the brain — the source of our dreams, drive and determination. Almost a century ago, the great Finnish distance runner Paavo Nurmi said: “Mind is everything; muscle, mere pieces of rubber. All that I am, I am because of my mind.”

Do you often take breaks from running or working out?

How do you get back into the swing of things?

Bella Sera Bridal Fashion Show

Good morning friends, how is everyone on this beautiful Monday morning?

Wish I could say that I am doing fabulous, but unfortunately I am still feeling quite under the weather. I’ve been feeling pretty “blah” ever since Friday night, but figured it was just due to lack of adequate sleep. I’m starting to think that it’s not just the sleep that’s causing me to feel like this because lately I am tired, no matter how much I sleep I get, I’m coughing up a storm and my sinuses hate me.  Perhaps this is what I get for not getting the flu shot? Oy vey.

On the bright side, it’s a whole 20 degrees out today! It feels like a heat wave compared to the teens and single digits temperatures we’ve been having lately.

Bella Sera Bridal Fashion Show

Despite my feeling of ”blahness”, I was feeling well enough to still participate in the  2013 Cruiseport Bridal Show & Wedding Expo. A few weeks ago, my previous employer, Bella Sera Bridal asked me if I would model a few of their newest dresses during the expo fashion show.

I loved working in the bridal industry, so I gladly accept any opportunity that I have to model their gowns. Plus, I love all the ladies I used to work with, so it’s also an excuse to catch up while having fun! Win-Win situation right there!

The expo at the Cruiseport was set up beautifully, with several booths that pertained to practically every detail that it takes to plan a wedding. There were booths of  caterers handing out samples of their delicious foods, entertaining DJ’s sampling some music, florists displaying their flower arrangements,  and much more. It seemed to be resourceful and fun event  for all the newly engaged couples.

Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to snap any photos of the actual expo, but I did snap some photos of some behind the scene happenings. All of the dresses in the photos below (along with even more bridal attire) can be found at Bella Sera Bridal.

Aren’t these shoes AMAZING? Definitely got my eyes on these for when the time comes!

Did you take advantage of bridal expo’s while engaged?

Do you get the flu shot?

Long Hair, Don’t Care

Hi kids!

Thanks for stopping by. I’ve got a funny story ahead for you, so lets blast through dinner, shall we?

One of my all time favorites.

Last night’s dinner was chicken lettuce wraps with avocado, peppers, onions and cole slaw. Simple yet amazing! Obviously I did not only have the one pictured on the plate…it was more like 2 or 3 or 4!

I often take dinner photo’s too quickly (because I’m usually starving despite my intense snacking habits) and then realize that I should have taken an extra second to actually take a good photo. Woopsie, you get the idea, right?

Long hair, Don’t Care

Can we just talk about how long my hair has gotten?! I don’t even know what to say! I’m ecstatic, I’m thrilled, YAY! I love long hair and I’m pretty sure I will never have short hair (ever).

My hair has been very fine for the longest time. No matter how many haircuts or products I used nothing used to seem to make it grow. About a year ago I took folic acid religiously for about 9 months. It definitely helped, but I got lazy, and haven’t been taking it anymore.

So what’s the reason for my unexpected hair growth? I’m actually not sure, but I’ll take it!

Funny story: My mother is a hair dresser so I’ve pretty much had every hairstyle and color done to my hair that you can imagine. I’ve had angles, layers, every shade of brown imaginable, black hair, blonde highlights and I even had a few strands of pink atone point. Teenage crisis!

When I was in the 4th grade my mom thought it would be “cute” to cut my hair very short, as in boy short. Even at the young age of 10 years old I was not sold on this, but she somehow convinced me that I would look like Robin on General Hospital (because I knew who that was?) and that it would be much easier to take care of.

Till this day I have never let her live down that idea AKA the worst idea EVER. I understand that she thought it would look “cute” and “clean” but being a little girl in school among my other little girl classmates, who had beautiful long hair that could be styled was not fun!

I couldn’t put it up in a pony-tail, It could not be curled or braided, I already had glasses AND braces and now a boy haircut too! <–you’ll have to imagine this picture yourself because I’m pretty sure I threw out all photos from 4-6th grade, sorry!

In the grand scheme of things, it wasn’t that bad (but it was!). It was only a small portion of my life, and my grew to “pony-tail” length in about 2 years (2 long years). Clearly, this short 2 year experience left an impact on me, otherwise I wouldn’t be knee-deep in 5 paragraphs writing about it!

Moral of the story- I love my long hair, I’m glad it has finally grown to be fuller and longer and I will never cut my hair shorter than shoulder length EVER.

Glad I got that off my chest! Now on to more important things like the fact that

And like that another week has gone by. Tomorrow is the first day of December and despite the cold weather, I sill feel like the summer JUST ended<–I keep saying that, can you tell I’m obsessed with summertime?

Have a fantastic weekend my friends. Have some fun, but don’t forget to relax! You deserve it ;-)

Any bad haircut stories to share?

Do you prefer yourself with long or short hair?

An Italian Thanksgiving

Hello Hello!

Happy Monday my friends, are we all rested from the weekend and holiday festivities? I was lucky enough to have FOUR days off in a row this week! It’s amazing what a little extra sleep can do for my body and overall mood. I’ve never been one of those people who likes staying in bed until noon time on the weekends. Sleeping in until 8 or 9a.m is plenty for me. Any longer than that, and I feel like half of the day is already gone!

Although I am naturally an early riser, I won’t lie about the fact that I sometimes hit the snooze button on the weekdays when my alarm goes off at 6:30 a.m.

If I could only go to bed a little earlier on the weekdays, it wouldn’t be such an issue, but it’s hard for me to get to sleep before 11 p.m. I usually get sucked into reading endless amounts of blogs, doing research and yes-Facebooking.

Would you consider yourself an early or late riser? Any suggestions on how to make myself fall asleep earlier?

An Italian Thanksgiving

Every year for Thanksgiving my family gathers at my aunt’s house for lots of wonderful food and family fun. I have celebrated Thanksgiving at my aunts house for my whole life (that’s 23 years!).

My aunt makes hosting a huge family party look easy, which always amazes me. Since we have dined at my aunts consecutively for so many years, we’ve developed a pretty good system that helps everything run smoothly.

My aunt prepares the main dish which is the turkey, along with most of the sides which include her amazing stuffing, squash, mashed potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, stuffed peppers and broccoli. Everyone else prepares various other dishes such as the Italian Wedding Soup which my mom makes, and the honey baked ham that my auntie Tina does a fantastic job with.

Sorry, there is really no way to make soup look appetizing in a photo!

This year I contributed my oven roasted brussel sprouts made with pine nuts and cranberries, along with a chocolate walnut pie. I was pleased with how both turned out!

Since we are Italian, we usually go above and beyond with the amount of food that we cook. There may not have been any pasta on this table, but there was enough of everything else to go around plenty of times! Since we eat fairly early (around 2 p.m), we always have a round 2 around 7 p.m or so. And since there is usually even more leftovers, we sometimes go back to my aunts the next day too! None of our food it is wasted, plus I think turkey tastes better the next day anyway!

I am thankful for SO many things in my life, but I am mostly thankful for my incredible family. We had a tough year, with the passing of my grandfather but we have stuck together, supported each other and become stronger and closer as a result.

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, it’s time to bring out the Christmas decorations. We already started decorating the house, but I won’t show you until everything is finished. For now I’ll leave you with a photo of my favorite ornament!

Isn’t he the most adorable little clown you’ve ever seen?

Do you go to the same place for Thanksgiving every year or do you change it up?

What was the best thing you ate this Thanksgiving?

Strega on the Waterfront

Gooooood Morning!

How’s everyone doing on this fine morning? Good? That’s Great!

Although today is a Monday, for some reason it just doesn’t feel like one (which is a good thing!) I only have to work one full day this week, so that could be is definitely why my week already feels shorter. It’s hard for me to believe that Thanksgiving is this Thursday. This month has seriously flown by, wasn’t it JUST Halloween?

I do love the fact that my weekends this month have been jam-packed, but I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t excited for some pure down time this week/weekend. Don’t get me wrong, going out is a blast, and I love it, but sometimes some good old rest and relaxation is just what the body needs!

Speaking of going out, and jam-packed weekends, this weekend involved just that. On Saturday night I got together with my cousin (who is getting married in May!) and most of her bridesmaids. I was very excited not only to see all the girls, but also because we were dining at Strega on the Waterfront. I’d never been to Strega, but had heard wonderful things.

Prior to sitting down for our 8:30 reservation, we decided to get a drink at the bar. Getting the bartenders attention due to the massive amounts of people was quite a struggle, but it was worth the wait. My espresso martini was incredible, not too sweet and not too strong, perfection!

Shortly after standing at the bar for about 15 minutes, we were seated at our table, which comfortably accommodated all 13 of us. We started off with some champagne, which was sent to us by the groom himself (how sweet!)

We ordered a few appetizers for the table, my favorite of which was the prosciutto with buffalo mozzarella drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Buffalo mozzarella is one of my favorite types of cheeses. When I went to Italy, I think I ate it every single day, but that shouldn’t be a shock considering that dairy is my favorite food group!

Throughout the night there was lots of chatting, laughing and toasting.

For my main course I ordered the “Calibrisella” (not pictured).

It tasted great, but since our dinner wasn’t served until past 10:30p.m, I could not bring myself to finish the whole dish. Or maybe it’s because I filled up on appetizers? That tends to be a bad habit of mine…

For dessert we had an assorted tray of cakes and cannoli’s. I always have room for dessert, so naturally I had a few bites of the tiramisu, and cheesecake (also not pictured, due to the Iphone battery dying on me).

Time really does fly when you are having a good time. When we got up to leave, I looked at my watch and noticed that it was almost midnight! Holy cow, no wonder why I was starting to yawn.

Overall it was a great night spent in great company. It really is a beautiful thing when family and friends come together as one, especially with everyone’s hectic schedules.

I can’t wait for many more gatherings with this great group of girls, especially the bachelorette party this April. Fun in the sun! Yay :)

Have you ever been in a wedding? What were some fun things you did prior to the main festivity?

Dinner Party Extravaganza & A Strange Oatmeal Combo

Happy Mooooonday Everyone!

How’s daylight savings treating all of you? I can’t say that I like the fact that it’s going to be dark out before I get out of work tonight, but at least it was light out this morning when I woke up.<—-Trying to see the “bright” side of things! ;-)

Yesterday’s breakfast was a nice bowl of hot oatmeal. I usually have oatmeal on the weekends, and yogurt during the week because during the week I eat breakfast at my desk, hence the lack of weekday breakfast posts.

One of my favorite oatmeal combinations is maple spice oatmeal with flax-seed, half a banana and peanut butter mixed in. Yesterday I realized that I had run out of bananas, so that combo really wasn’t an option anymore. I remembered that I had some figs in my fridge, so I figured I’d throw some of those in there and see where it got me.

I was a little skeptic. Figs, oatmeal and peanut butter sounds kind of strange, but much to my surprise it was DELICIOUS! This is definitely a winning combo in book, and to think that this never would have happened if I hadn’t run out of bananas. It’s funny the way things work out sometimes isn’t it?

Fun fact: I love almost every fruit (except cantaloupe, yuck!) but figs hold a special place in my heart. I’ve always said that I want a fig tree so that I could enjoy figs all year round. Too bad the New England weather won’t allow that, sigh.

Dinner Party extravaganza

Over the weekend my mom had a dinner party for some family and friends. Not because she is my mom, but the woman is an amazing cook! So when she asked me to help her prep a few dishes, I gladly said yes because I knew that I’d be able to pick up some tips and tricks of my own.

Her menu for this get together involved several tastes of miniature portioned foods, instead of one big meal. I like this idea because I typically tend to get full off one dish, and never get around to tasting everything that I wanted to!<—-Huge bummer!

For this dinner party the menu involved small tastes of:

Ricotta Stuffed Veal Meatballs

Baby Stuffed Peppers

Mini Seafood Pies

Arugula Salad with Figs

And my favorite little tasting of them all were the mini arancini. Almost too cute to eat!

For those of you who may not know, arancini are fried rice balls coated with breadcrumbs. They are primarily a Sicilian food, (where my family is from) but can be found all over Italy. They are usually filled with meat sauce, but you can fill them with anything you want! The arancini that we made over the weekend were filled with ham and cheese, and they were much smaller than the usual size.

Some typical fillings are: Any kind of sauce, vegetables, cheese or even chocolate! Yes chocolate…..Basically they are amazing, and I suggest you try them at least once in your life.

Aside from the amazing food, check out this extensive table setup.

I can’t say I inherited the creative gene from my mom, but maybe I can learn?  Or I’ll just have to call her when I want to have a grownup fancy dinner party of my own! ;-)

Have you ever thrown a fancy smancy dinner party of your own?

What is your favorite oatmeal combination?

New Chobani Flips & Early Morning Workouts

Happy Friday Friends!

Anyone else feel like this week went by brutally slow? I sure do, but I’ve got a fun weekend ahead of me so it all good :)

Chobani Flips

If you follow me on Instagram then you already know that yesterday was my first time trying the new Chobani Flips yogurt cups!

I have been meaning to try the Chobani Flips ever since they came out, but I haven’t been able to find them at my local grocery store. Luckily, a few days ago I went to a different grocery store, and they had some in stock. I immediately grabbed one of each flavor, and left the store with a smile on my face. It’s the little things in life :)

I have yet to try the chocolate/raspberry flavor so I can’t speak about that (yet), but I did try the honey/banana flavor, and I am glad to report that it was delicious!

I thought that it was going to be banana yogurt with honey on the side, but it was actually the other way around.  The honey yogurt paired with the banana mash (not sure what else to call it?) is a fabulous combination that tasted great together. I practically “flipped out” when I first tasted it, it’s that good!

Early Morning Workouts

This morning I woke up at 5:15 a.m (OMG) in order to get to the gym for a 5:30 spin class. I don’t usually (ever) wake up this early to go to the gym, but I do consider myself someone who likes to exercise in the morning, just not before 6 a.m.

So, why did I do this today? Well, it’s been getting harder and harder for me to go to the gym after work beacause I have no motivation once I get out of the office. I have the greatest intentions throughout the day, but once 5 o’clock hits, all my intentions go out the door.

With that being said, I obviously have to find an alternative to when I can fit my workouts in. I do not want my fitness to struggle, because of my new job so told myself that I would try this whole “workout before work thing” and see how it goes.

Takeaways From Early Morning Workout Day 1:

Bed Time: I NEED to get to bed earlier! Last night I feel asleep around 11:30 p.m and I was pretty much in a zombie state when my alarm went off.

Class Time: I feel that I will get more accomplished if I take a class this early in the morning, rather than do something on my own. The instructors energy coupled with a group setting definitely helped my attitude.

Prep Time: I should lay out my clothes, shoes and other gear the night before. It will be easier for me to not have to think about what to wear, and it will also save time. Clearly I need all the precious moments I can get!

All in all it wasn’t that bad. I am a little tired right now (probably because of my late bedtime) but I am absolutely thrilled about my workout already being over and done with!

It’s going to be interesting to see how the experiment goes. One side of me loves the fact that my workout is done with, but the other side of me really hated waking up so early and driving to the gym in the dark and in the cold!

Have a great weekend!

Do you prefer early morning, afternoon or evening workouts?

Any suggestions for successfully tackling early morning workouts?

Summer Highlights

Hello everyone!

Can you believe that it is already September? Where did the summer go? I feel like I just got back from Aruba yesterday!

I know everyone has a different view of when the summer is “officially” over, but for me it has always been the day after Labor Day. Typically this is the day that everyone goes back to school, and back to school for me always meant that the summer was officially dunzo, womp womp :(

Although I am sad that the summer is over, I can’t help but be excited for what’s next. September has always kind of been like New Years for me in the sense of  being able to “start fresh”. I am psyched for the Fall and everything that comes with it, but for now I’d like to do a quick recap of the incredible summer I had, shall we?

Summer 2012 Highlights

Foxwoods with girlfriends

My Birthday! :)

Nights out with great friends

Beach days (lots of them).

Healthy Living Summit

Country Fest

U.S Open<—-More thorough update coming your way soon!

And oh yeah, I hit a few pretty awesome goals this summer too….

Yes, I ran 10 MILES yesterday in preparation for my half-marathon. This is the longest distance I have ever run and A PERFECT way to end the summer if you ask me ;-)

So long sweet summer and hello Fall! I am more than ready for apple picking, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Fall baking and Christmas! :) YES!

What are some of your summer highlights?

What are you most excited about for the Fall?
