What a Pleasant Surprise

Yesterday was “one of those days”.

The weather was crappy (spring where are you?!), I had barely slept the night before and found it hard to concentrate at work.

I was stuck in traffic on the way home (due to the weather), but my mood instantly changed when I got home and noticed that I had a pleasant surprise waiting for me.

The lovely people over at Chobani surprised me with a package filled with fabulous goodies!

Inside the package was a 100% real Chobani t-shirt, along with a custom Chobani and spoon and different flavored Chobani Flips!

How quickly my mood changes! :)

Along with my treats, the Chobani team took the time to hand write me a letter; a rarity these days.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about e-mail, Facebook, Twitter and texting but there is something very thoughtful about a handwritten letter.

I especially love the last line! of the letter. “Don’t ever change!”

Don’t worry Chobani, I’ll be a yogurt addict for life :)

When was the last time you hand wrote a letter?

New Chobani Flips & Early Morning Workouts

Happy Friday Friends!

Anyone else feel like this week went by brutally slow? I sure do, but I’ve got a fun weekend ahead of me so it all good :)

Chobani Flips

If you follow me on Instagram then you already know that yesterday was my first time trying the new Chobani Flips yogurt cups!

I have been meaning to try the Chobani Flips ever since they came out, but I haven’t been able to find them at my local grocery store. Luckily, a few days ago I went to a different grocery store, and they had some in stock. I immediately grabbed one of each flavor, and left the store with a smile on my face. It’s the little things in life :)

I have yet to try the chocolate/raspberry flavor so I can’t speak about that (yet), but I did try the honey/banana flavor, and I am glad to report that it was delicious!

I thought that it was going to be banana yogurt with honey on the side, but it was actually the other way around.  The honey yogurt paired with the banana mash (not sure what else to call it?) is a fabulous combination that tasted great together. I practically “flipped out” when I first tasted it, it’s that good!

Early Morning Workouts

This morning I woke up at 5:15 a.m (OMG) in order to get to the gym for a 5:30 spin class. I don’t usually (ever) wake up this early to go to the gym, but I do consider myself someone who likes to exercise in the morning, just not before 6 a.m.

So, why did I do this today? Well, it’s been getting harder and harder for me to go to the gym after work beacause I have no motivation once I get out of the office. I have the greatest intentions throughout the day, but once 5 o’clock hits, all my intentions go out the door.

With that being said, I obviously have to find an alternative to when I can fit my workouts in. I do not want my fitness to struggle, because of my new job so told myself that I would try this whole “workout before work thing” and see how it goes.

Takeaways From Early Morning Workout Day 1:

Bed Time: I NEED to get to bed earlier! Last night I feel asleep around 11:30 p.m and I was pretty much in a zombie state when my alarm went off.

Class Time: I feel that I will get more accomplished if I take a class this early in the morning, rather than do something on my own. The instructors energy coupled with a group setting definitely helped my attitude.

Prep Time: I should lay out my clothes, shoes and other gear the night before. It will be easier for me to not have to think about what to wear, and it will also save time. Clearly I need all the precious moments I can get!

All in all it wasn’t that bad. I am a little tired right now (probably because of my late bedtime) but I am absolutely thrilled about my workout already being over and done with!

It’s going to be interesting to see how the experiment goes. One side of me loves the fact that my workout is done with, but the other side of me really hated waking up so early and driving to the gym in the dark and in the cold!

Have a great weekend!

16 oz Blended Chobani Yogurt Giveaway

Hello everyone!

Today I have a very special announcement for all of you! Recently, the awesome people over at Chobani (proud sponsor of the Olympics) sent me a package of their new 16 oz Greek Yogurt Blends. These flavors are different than the usual flavored Chobani because the natural fruit flavor is blended throughout the yogurt itself, instead of just at the bottom of the cup! Pretty cool, right?

In case you live under a rock haven’t heard of Chobani, you should know that it’s packed with protein and all natural ingredients. It’s a perfect pre or post workout snack and I swear it is what is fueling me through my half-marathon training.

The new 16 oz size is perfect for baking and cooking or even just by the spoonful. The new flavors are available in 0% Black Cherry, Blueberry and Peach as well as 2% Mango, Pineapple and Vanilla Chocolate Chunk.

My favorite flavor is the Vanilla Chocolate Chunk. It tastes even better than it sounds, which is hard to believe but true! This decadent new flavor, has actual chocolate chunks mixed into the creamy vanilla flavor. The chunks are are not particularly big, but plentiful and spread evenly throughout the whole cup. Thank you for not skimping out on the chocolate Chobani! You really know how to make a girl smile :)

Day Off

Happy Friday everyone!!!

Can you guess why I am in a great mood this morning? I’ll give you a hint, It may or may not be because I love Fridays! :)

This morning I woke up at 6:45 a.m (as I normally do) but I decided to skip the gym, in lieu of some extra ZzZ’s. I played tennis on Monday, went spinning on Tuesday and Thursday, and ran/did weight training on Wednesday. I probably could have done some sort of light activity, but I honestly just wasn’t feelin’ it. So I listend to my body, and took a day off! My hips are feeling awfully tight, so I think some serious stretching is in order later on!

This morning I enjoyed my usual cup of Chobani 0% Greek yogurt with some ground flax-seed, almond halves & pecan halves mixed in. I’ve never mixed pecans into my yogurt before, but lets just say I was pleasantly surprised! They gave the yogurt an extra crunch that I really enjoyed :)

Gotta run! Have a great Friday!

How often do you take rest days?

Like Mother Like Son

Good morning everyone!

Another gloomy day here is Boston! Boo! :( Oh well, no worries my sun is still shining :)

I won’t bore you with what I had for breakfast, but can you guess what Santo had?

Like mother like son! Yup, I always give Santo my Chobani cup after I’m done with it. He absolutely loves licking every last bit of yogurt out of the container! No wasting here folks!

I’m in a rush today, so I’ve got to run! Have a GREAT day!

Spring has Sprung!

Happy Monday everyone!

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend! Mine involved a good mix of work, fun and play, just how I like it! On Friday, I really didn’t do much of anything. I took it easy during the day and then went to my aunts for some takeout Chinese food with my family for dinner. We ordered WAY too much food, but hey, theres nothing wrong with lots of leftovers, right? On Saturday, Matteo and I visited a new restaurant in the Northend that was absolutely delicious!Image

I am in the process of writing a formal review for it now, so I am not going to fill you in on what it is called just yet. I will give you a sneak peak at my favorite part of the meal though!

Holy YUM! Betcha’ can’t wait to find out where I indulged in that decadent chocolate piece of heaven on a plate! Patience is a virtue my friends, I promise I’ll let you know very soon :) .

This morning I prepared a rice cake with peanut butter and banana slices along with a cup of cottage cheese with ground flax seed mixed in. Are you shocked that I didn’t have yogurt?! Don’t worry I bet lunch will involve some Chobani for sure!

The weather is supped to be gorgeous today! Word on the street is that Boston is going to hit a whopping 70 degrees by mid afternoon! Monday’s can be rough, but having the sun out and the temperatures slowly increase sure does lessen the pain!

Have a great day!

Chobani Yogurt Banana Bread

I’ve been craving banana bread for weeks now, but haven’t been able to make it due to the lack of overly ripe bananas in my house. Luckily, this week I had a few leftover brown bananas that were just perfect for baking. I ceased the opportunity as quickly as possible because as much as I LOVE the taste of banana bread, I love the SMELL of it baking in the oven even more! This time,as the banana bread was baking I was still excited to smell the rich aroma, but quite a bit nervous to taste it. This was my first attempt at baking a yogurt banana bread loaf, and I was a little skeptic as to how it would turn out. Fortunately, the banana bread Gods were smiling down on me, because it was a huge success! This banana bread tastes more moist than an average loaf, and also contains a nice boost of protein! What more could you ask for?

Chobani Yogurt Banana Bread

Yields 1 full loaf

  • 1 & 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 3/4 cup mashed very ripe banana (about 3)
  • 1 container(6oz) of Chobani Greek 0% yogurt
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees and grease the bottom of a 9×5 inch loaf pan with shortening or cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, beat all of the ingredients except the nuts with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds. Increase the speed and then continue to beat for 45 seconds (make sure to scrape the bowl frequently).
  • Once all the ingredients are fully beaten, stir in the nuts.
  • Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the bread comes out clean.
  • Cool for 10 minutes, and then transfer to a cooling rack. Cool completely for 1 hour before cutting.

Enjoy! :)

Have you ever used yogurt when baking? How so?

Three Cheers for CHO!

Can you imagine how excited I was when this package was delivered to my front door a few days ago?!

The generous folks over at Chobani found out how much I LOVE their yogurt, and offered to send me a 12- cup sample of their 3 newest flavors!

Of course I accepted, I mean how could I resist an opportunity to fuel my yogurt addiction ? ;-)

I don’t know about you but I love sampling food, especially food that I’m pretty sure I will like! They sent me the blood orange, apple cinnamon and passion fruit flavors, all of which were nothing but good!

I was immediately drawn to the apple cinnamon flavor, so I made sure to get a taste right away! Oh.Em.Gee. This stuff is heavenly! I’ll have to admit, I was scared about these new flavors being a little too sweet for my liking, but I’m glad I was all wrong. The creamy texture and tangy-ness makes the apple cinnamon flavor taste like an apple pie yogurt! It definitely my new favorite! Second on my list is the blood orange flavor, then the passion fruit. The passion fruit is quite interesting because it has the little seeds in it, which gives it a nice crunch. I’m glad I got to sample these because I’ve always loved Chobani, but now that they’ve come out with these unique new flavors, I love them even more! :)

I can totally see myself enjoying one of these flavors as a nice afternoon pick me up, or as a post workout snack that tastes like dessert! Up to this point if someone were to ask me what my favorite flavor of Chobani was, I would have went with the plain. Although I do still LOVE the plain, I now have a few new flavors to add to my favorites list! These new items will definitely become regulars in my fridge.

Chobani you have won my heart over once again!

Thank you!

How to Go Greek

Greek yogurt that is!

If you have not yet discovered the new trend revolving around Greek yogurt, please let me take a few minutes to enlighten you on this wonderful, and newly popular super food! Not only is Greek yogurt creamier and tangier than its conventional counterpart, it is also less sweet, healthier and keeps you feeling fuller longer!  This is because it goes through a process that strains it extensively to remove most of the liquid whey, lactose, and sugar, giving it its thick consistency. Although it usually has about the same calories as other healthy non-Greek yogurts, it has double the protein and less than half of the sugar, carbs and sodium content! This alone makes it an excellent choice for diabetics and non-diabetics alike!  Even the fat free/0% versions, taste just like many of the full-fat options.

If  you have been following My Yogurt Addiction for a while you know that Greek yogurt is my favorite kind. I almost always enjoy a cup of 0%, plain Chobani mixed with some sort of “fix-in” (i.e: flax, chia, fruit etc…) for breakfast, as well as an afternoon or late night snack.

I know that several of you are probably thinking, “I really want to like Greek yogurt but I just can’t get past the taste, texture, flavor, whatever…” No worries my friends, there are PLENTY of way ways to sneak Greek yogurt into your diet, so that you too can partake in the extensive health benefits it offers.

How to Go Greek

Dips and sauces

Use it in place of many other high calorie/high fat dips such as sour cream for chips, fajitas and tacos.

Add some Greek yogurt to your fruit or vegetable smoothie, and you won’t even know it’s there!

Whipped Cream

Top it over some fruit, ice cream, waffles or pancakes for a healthier version of a whipped topping.

Frozen Yogurt

Just throw it in the freezer and wait for it to freeze, or purchase the already frozen Greek yogurt such as this one made by Oikos.

Substitute it for some of the high fat ingredients such as oil, shortening, whole milk, butter and heavy cream when baking. By using Greek yogurt in place of these ingredients you will be saving on the cholesterol, fat and calories, but not losing out on the creaminess of say frosting, or the moistness of banana bread.

Dressing, Spread or Topping

Use it in place of a high calorie ranch dressing or mayonnaise, as well as a topping for a baked potato, or a tangy marinade for fish or chicken.

Baby Food

Mix it in with some of your baby’s baby food (such as mashed bananas), or allow them to eat it straight up by giving them some baby specific Greek yogurt brands such as Stonyfields YObaby or Chobani’s Champions ,specifically made for kids. Of course, you should always check with you pediatrician before feeding your child something new!
