Back to Basics

Hi everyone, did we all survive the blizzard?

The amount of snow that hit the northeast this weekend was absolutely crazy. Hopefully this is a “one and done” kind of winter, and there won’t be any more snow storms to look forward to for the rest of the season. If you couldn’t already tell, snow and I have a love/hate relationship.

Now that the storm is in the past, I am finally ready to go back to basics with my eating regimen. Homemade pancakes, pizza and cookies definitely got the best of me this weekend, and I am certainly feeling the after effects now.

Once we become accustomed to eating overly processed foods, it is easy to forget what natural foods taste like. Instead of trying to commit to a 100% clean diet off the bat,  start by incorporating  just one clean eating basic back into your life at a time.

Making the transition back to clean eating can be difficult, but it is an obstacle that we will all have to face at some point. The quicker we realize this, the quicker we will be on the road to living our best life!

Back to Basics
  • Drink A LOT of Water
  • Load up on Fruits, Veggies, Lean Meats & Whole Grains
  • Limit Processes Foods
  • Stop Mindless Eating
  • Cook More, Order Less
  • Eat Food in It’s Most Natural State
  • Avoid Artificial Sweeteners
  • Read Labels!

Clean eating does take some extra thought, preparation and creativity, but it’s not rocket science. Everyone is bound to fall off the bandwagon every once in a while, but what’s important is hopping right back on!

Happy Clean Eating!

What are your tips for going back to basics?

  1. Great reminder!!! I need to get back to the basics too!

  2. I always find it difficult to get “back on track” after a weekend of unhealthy eating. If you can just get through the first few days it becomes much easier though. I like the idea of doing just a little bit at a time instead of going cold turkey. It makes it easier to revert back to those less healthy choices. Sometimes, though, you just need to indulge when a storm hits :)

  3. Well. The weekend my car was filthy from the dirt salt and snow, and now due to the big ol’ rain fall driving in to work today my car’s all shiny and new looking. Haha!!

I need to start eating more clean again. For the past month or so I’ve been eating a lot of comfort foods and just quick food in general since I”m so cold and don’t want to cook (excuses). My pants are getting tight!

  5. Good tips! I find I start to get really overwhelmed if I try to be “perfect” all at once.

  6. This is a great post with a lot of great reminders! The one that I need to work on the most is eliminating artificial sweeteners. Otherwise, I am doing pretty good! ;)
