Childhood Video Games

This weekend my girlfriend Christina and I attended our first Halloween party of the year. Some of you may think that it’s a little too early to start celebrating Halloween, but not us! Ever since my college days, I have always loved Halloween.

At my college, Halloween was considered one of the biggest holidays. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE would dress up and go from dorm to dorm or apartment to apartment. I did not go to a school where not dressing up for Halloween was an option. Check out this throwback picture!

Even as a kid I remember being obsessed with Halloween. My mother is a very creative person by nature and got a kick out of dressing my brother and I up in the craziest costumes, she even made a few of them herself!

In recent years for Halloween I have been a German beer girl, a Spanish dancer, a nurse, a gladiator, a mobster and this year I was Luigi from the video game characters Mario & Luigi!

Since I am the tallest out of the both of us, I opted to be Luigi and Christina was Mario. Don’t we look like the real characters?

This years costume got me thinking about the video games I used to play as a child. I guess you could say my family was big into video games back in the day. I’m pretty sure my brother and I asked for the newest video game system every year for Christmas. Nintendo 64 was by far my favorite!

I remember playing all of the Super Mario & Luigi games (did anyone not play Super Mario at some point?) but I also remember loving Banjo Kazooie, Zelda, Crazy Taxi, Donkey Kong, Sonic the Hedgehog, Pokemon, Guitar Hero and of course the epic Nintendo Duck Hunt! Does anyone else remember that game, or am I really outdating myself???

Kind of makes me want to bust out the dusty controllers and consols.  Too bad we gave most of them away to charity when we outgrew them!

Have a great day!

Did you play video games as a child?

What were your favorite games?

Give thanks for what you are now, and keep fighting for what you want to be tomorrow.

  1. I LOVE your costume from this year – so cute! I’m actually not a huge fan of Halloween…loved it as a kid, but not so much as an adult. I think (okay, I know) it has to do with an experience I had in college. Anyway, I also loved to play mario brothers on my brother play station. I also loved SEGA, lol.

  2. 1. I LOVE that last quote…so relevant for how I’m feeling today!
    2. My hubby was Luigi one year and I was princess toadstool! Gosh I love Halloween! Next year I am planning a big Halloween party at my house but this year, with the new baby and all…it’s tough. I probably won’t dress up. Sad :(
